In Solidarity with the Landing Spot and Community Youth
All LGBTQ+ community members— including drag performers — have the right to express themselves freely and authentically without fear of hateful attacks or threats to their life or well-being.
We are heartbroken and livid to learn that our community has once again been threatened by a hateful few — this time in our own backyard. Drag is an art form that has challenged hegemony and oppressive power structures throughout history and is now being targeted by hate groups across the country. This is a violation of our community’s constitutional rights and a threat to our well-being.
This act of hate and threat to our safety is part of an alarming trend. This year alone, a record 389 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced across the U.S. Many of these bills disproportionately target and threaten the livelihood, healthcare, and personal safety of our trans siblings, and many especially affect queer and trans people of color.
The Lavender Library stands in solidarity with the Landing Spot and all those impacted by the ongoing and weaponized anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric. We recognize that these attacks by hateful white supremacists and misogynistic groups are a deliberate effort to immobilize our community and silence us. We are far more powerful than that.
The Lavender Library remains committed to serving the Greater Sacramento LGBTQ+ community with a safe space where our community can gather and express themselves freely and authentically.
LGBTQ+ Rights are Human Rights. Trans Rights are Human Rights. We must continue to support each other and protect the most vulnerable among us as we face and overcome an onslaught of misguided hate.
Our queerness is a danger to no one. Our mere existence is not the problem. Those who disagree must look inward to discover the root of their discomfort.
